Message In fact, the CCD that is mounted in the nose pod actually has a different sensitivity profile than a standard device. It's specifically designed to "see" further into the IR part of the spectrum and hence has higher sensitivity to IR illumination.

: CCD being a charge coupling device, the fancy name for your video camera's retina.

: They are highly sensitive to Ir energy - crank up your camera and put a remote control in front of it and start pushing buttons. You will actually see the pulses of light that the Ir LED gives off, although you cant see it with your naked eye.
